Where Heirloom Grains Meet Time-Tested Milling for Unforgettable Taste

Our Mission

To bring the best flavor to your table by using heirloom grains and time-honored milling techniques—because food comes first.

Our Vision

To preserve Southern foodways and share stoneground goodness with the world, one bag at a time.

Our Values

We value tradition, authenticity, and quality. Every bag we mill reflects our Southern roots, respect for time-honored methods, and commitment to honest food and community.

Meet the Maker

Greg Johnsman has had milling on his mind since childhood. Taught by third-generation miller Jack Brock, Greg developed a deep respect for the craft early on. After studying poultry science at Clemson and working in agriculture, he rediscovered his love for milling when he found a 1945 mill in Saluda, SC. With that, the seed for Marsh Hen Mill was planted.

From Hobby to Heritage

In 2007, Greg began milling after hours and on weekends, founding what was first called Geechie Boy Mill. As demand grew, so did the operation—and eventually, the brand took on a new name: Marsh Hen Mill. Named after the bird native to their sea island home, the brand reflects both a sense of place and the peace described in Psalm 91—being sheltered under God’s wing.

Meet Our Mascot

Emmie, the marsh hen, is more than a mascot—she’s a symbol of our island roots, happy to dwell in our roadside market and welcome all who visit.
